Comcast’s Peacock Won’t Have Much Original Content This Year as Productions Halt
Wall Street Journal ^ | 4/14/20 | Lillian Rizzo

Comcast Corp. said most of the original shows that were to headline the launch of its Peacock streaming service likely won’t be ready until 2021 - another setback for a platform already coping with the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics to next year.

“The majority of our original productions, like virtually all productions across the world, have been paused,” said Matt Strauss, chairman of Peacock, in a call to the press on Tuesday during which he discussed the challenges created by the global coronavirus pandemic. Mr. Strauss said the service would have a “materially limited slate and launch in 2020.”

NBCUniversal’s Peacock, which will become available starting Wednesday to Comcast customers and to the broader public on July 15, will have to rely on classic shows including “30 Rock,” “Parks and Recreation” and the “Law and Order” franchise to attract viewers for now.

I haven’t watched broadcast TV in years.

**** Comcast.

This is the company that used to send teams of recruiters around the neighborhoods knocking on doors trying to sign up customers.

They would not leave when asked politely to do so.

I did get a couple of good things out of this shutdown nonsense.

No bombardment of sports and arts/culture events my wife dragged me to. Also I can work from home a few days a week.

Couldn't they make one exception: I must have my The Blacklist!

I've already re-watched the series. I NEED MORE? Is Red Lizzie's real dad? How can Lizzie the ding-dong be an FBI agent? (oops, kinda answered my own question) Aram with a girlfriend?

I need more coffee....

The worst job in the media right now has got to be the sports guy. I flip around watching the local newscasts and they are the fifth wheel of the news team now. They are struggling to find something, anything, to talk about. Mostly consists of pestering various area college and high school coaches on Skype to talk about what happened last season and what might happen next season.

I thought they only hired 13 year olds to be their WH correspondents.

There are tens of thousands of live theater productions (now shut down) across the country. Air them.

Let’s see, I regularly watch NCIS, Outlander, Trish Reagan, Lou Dobbs, WLFI TV’s daily weather forecast, TCM, SyFy, and Encore Western Channel. This isn’t going to affect me at all.
