Mayor Martin Hicks from Grants, New Mexico broke with the liberal governor and vowed he will reopen his city next week. Mayor Hicks is a Democrat.
Hicks had this to say about Democrat Governor Michelle Grisham, “The governor is killing us. She’s totally killing us.”
The leftist governor wants businesses to remain closed until the middle of May. New Mexico has seen only 2,660 cases of the coronavirus and 93 deaths across the entire state. The state has seen 44 deaths for every million in population. There is no need to extend the lockdown.
The mayor of a small New Mexico city announced Thursday that he will allow small businesses to reopen next week in defiance of the governor’s order that shuttered nonessential businesses to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Grants Mayor Martin “Modey” Hicks said he’s giving businesses permission to reopen on Monday and is ordering the police force in the city of about 9,000 people to prevent any State Police officers from issuing lockdown violation citations.
“The governor is killing us. She’s totally killing us,” Hicks said. “So we have no choice. So right now, we are reopening. Let State Police come down here.”

Yes, indeed, NM has Sheriffs, and some darn good Constitutionalist ones who have stood up to the Governor many times.
Unfortunately most of our Mayors think that “Constitution” has something to do with exercising regularly and eating your veggies.

For folks who are not aware, being a Lujan in New Mexico is a bit like being a Kennedy in Massachusetts.

Yeah, and some of her cousins and uncles etc. are/were halfway decent people. Michelle is the worst of the worst of them.
Yes, they do have Sheriffs. A substantial portion of New Mexico is Republican and Western Cowboy freedom aligned. They open carry and children drive from 8 or 9 years old on ranches. They are ready to open. As my nephew said they have not really been doing this social distancing. They are outside playing on four-wheelers and enjoying the outdoors.
I wonder if hantavirus has killed more people in NM than CV-19.
Well, if the covid19 numbers are accurate, (which I doubt they are) covid-19 is about double the hanta. Of course the hanta vectors are a lot more limited, and the hanta death rate is about 250 to 500 times that of Covid.
