Were those closed pork processing plants you mention owned by the Chinese Commies ? BTW anything owned by today’s China is owned by that government like Smithfield Pork. When allowed look at what they’ll do. Look at Italy;

Our approach to deal with this plague was highly influenced by the death and sickness due to the CCWV ( Chinese Communist Wuhan Virus) reports coming out of Italy.

Most Americans including this one were not aware that that the Italian socialist government had actually allowed the Chinese communists to purchase thus remove Italian ownership of a large segment of their fashion industry producers. Then replace the Italians working at those companies taken over by the Chinese and have them manned by thousands of Chinese nationals allowed to be brought in to work there.

When that CCWV breakout occured in Wuhan the politburo closedoff Wuhan but did not warn the Italian Socialist government or the Pope with whom the Chinese government had good relations with but certainly violated when the socialists should have been informed and allowed to deny those Chinese workers travel to and from China particularly for their New Year while this was occuring. Which Trump did with the exception of only allowing American citizens returning..

Those statistics being reported always indicated the casualties were aged Italians no focus was permitted on China or even if the victims were from China and the emphasis was on the speed of contagion. While doing so also ignored the direct connection those producers have with the Chinese Communist government which owns them.

I have been hearing about food shortages coming in the next few weeks to months. WHO announced last week food shortages would be happening as well.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/22/world/africa/coronavirus-hunger-crisis.html

‘Instead of Coronavirus, the Hunger Will Kill Us.’ A Global Food Crisis Looms.

The coronavirus has sometimes been called an equalizer because it has sickened both rich and poor, but when it comes to food, the commonality ends. It is poor people, including large segments of poorer nations, who are now going hungry and facing the prospect of starving.

“The coronavirus has been anything but a great equalizer,” said Asha Jaffar, a volunteer who brought food to families in the Nairobi slum of Kibera after the fatal stampede. “It’s been the great revealer, pulling the curtain back on the class divide and exposing how deeply unequal this country is.”

Already, 135 million people had been facing acute food shortages, but now with the pandemic, 130 million more could go hungry in 2020, said Arif Husain, chief economist at the World Food Program, a United Nations agency. Altogether, an estimated 265 million people could be pushed to the brink of starvation by year’s end.

Just received this email - almost started a thread, but this is good. Don't know the author. ........................................................ Made in the USA ACE HARDWARE - Made in the USA - Very Encouraging

READ ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM! LOTS OF GOOD INFO HERE!

Costco sells Goodyear wiper blades for almost half the price that you will pay on the outside and they are made in the U.S.A. Read and do the following.

Unfortunately our politicians and top CEOs have pushed for trade to China and Mexico for years so Americans are now out of work.

Did You Know that there is no electric coffee maker made in the US and that the only kitchen appliances made in the US is Viking? This information came from the a report by Diane Sawyer. Hopefully this has changed or will soon!!

I DIDN'T KNOW HALLMARK CARDS WERE MADE IN CHINA That's why I won't buy cards at Hallmark anymore, They are Made in China and are more expensive! I'll buy them at Dollar Tree - 50 cents each and made in USA

I have been looking at the blenders available on the Internet Kitchen Aid is MADE IN THE USA. Top of my list already..

Yesterday I was in Wal-Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some Made In China for $6.99. I didn't want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA. They are just as good.. Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some Made in The USA - what a concept! - and they were $3.00 cheaper.

We are being brainwashed to believe that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. One Light Bulb at A Time.

I was in Lowe's the other day and just out of curiosity, I looked at the hose attachments. They were all Made in China. The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA

Start looking, people . ...In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - most often, their job.

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is now marked "Made in Mexico." I don't buy it anymore.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ...now I have switched to Crest.

You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy -- was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value" I picked up both types of bulbs and compared them: they were the same except for the price .. .the GE bulbs cost more than the Everyday Value Brand, but the thing that surprised me the most was that that GE was Made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - you guessed it - the USA at a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

It's way past time to start finding and buying products you use every day that are made right here.

So, on to the next aisle: Bounce dryer sheets. Yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada. The Everyday Value Brand cost less, and was MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years, at almost half the price.

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is Made In the USA - The job you save may be your own or your neighbor's!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies - you're sending the jobs there. (We should have awakened a decade ago...) Let's get with the program and help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA . I passed this on.. ..Will you??? If you care about American workers, you will pass it on.

“A friend knows someone who has a beef herd and has been told by NYS they have to reduce the size of their herd by a certain percentage or they would be fined.”

I heard the same thing about dairy industry, they were told cull their heard to keep the prices up by lowering the supply. There was a news article in the last week or so about that.

I live in a downtown apartment but I also bought a small cargo van. I put inside my gas hoard and also a dukati multistrada motorcycle. I mostly use the latter to commute nowadays.

Ok you are talking a small supply then. You need to get some gas stabilizer to keep the gas fresh.

Make sure you vent that van if you store it inside of the van. I live in the country so I can store regular gas in cans under shade on the side of my property.

I think non-ethanol gas last longer.

If want an emergency supply I fill my old Jeep tank up with gas. That Jeep is not driven a lot compare to my other Jeeps.. Just easy to store it there.

You might want to start a new tread on how to store gas. There might be some safety issue I have not consider.

I actually used two years old gasoline in a modern car engine and it was just great. I also use some from the drums right now and then replace it with a recently bought at gas staition too.

The Chinese I know are all preppers. They have their freezers full of fish and meat and garages full with cereals and canned stuff.

Likewise, so are all the Americans I know.

I restocked meats 2 weeks ago when the first packing plant outbreaks were announced. I didn’t have a lot of room, but did what I could. ASAP, we will smoke some larger cuts like butt or brisket so it takes up less room, leaving space to restock, yet again.

We all have recipes that stretch meat &/or use up every last little bit. I’ve been impressed at how many meals can be made from whole muscle cuts and whole chickens. Sometimes, that small amount of leftovers added to a soup or a dumpling filling makes another couple of meals.

...the sanitary conditions at the packing companies, staffed with thousand of illegal workers,
_________________________________________________

From what I’ve read and based on talking to some retired veterinarian meat inspectors, the process is sanitary, but the proximity and speed means human-to-human transmission is increased.

I’ve also read about the plants doing more to correct the proximity problem and the sanitary conditions in locker rooms and cafeterias, which really only affect workers, not product.

We don’t eat meat raw (although I roast and grill beef to ‘warm red’ whenever possible). Cook it and it’s fine. Marinades are another process that destroy bacteria and viruses. Back when this was not always true, people developed recipes for sauerbraten, corning of brisket and tongue, jerky, etc.

Humans are omnivores and have dealt with the problems of keeping meat safe for a very long time.
