With a little bit of luck and persistence, a Colorado man has hit the jackpot twice after playing the same numbers for 30 years.
Colorado Lottery officials identified “Joe B.” as the winner of two $1 million Powerball jackpots on March 25. He claimed the winnings on Friday, NBC affiliate KUSA-TV reported.
The winning tickets were sold on Lake Avenue in Pueblo at two different stores, about a mile apart, officials said.
“Joe B.” bought a few plays in the morning and a couple more in the evening, communications director Meghan Dougherty said. Two of his plays, with his own numbers, hit all five numbers and the Powerball.
Asked what he and his wife plan to spend the money on, "Joe B." told lottery officials, "the Boss has plans for it."
The Colorado Lottery received approval earlier this month to process winning tickets worth $10,000 or more at a touch-free, drive-thru claims office amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Winners must make an appointment to claim their prize, or do so through the mail.
I played Powerball...I did not have too much success...I usually do "quick picks"...Maybe I should play same numbers over and over again...

Whenever the pot gets high, I play the same number 3 times. Rarely do more than three or four different people win. This way, you get a vast majority of any jackpot.
If you are inclined to play multiple tickets, your odds are not going to be improved significantly. Playing the same numbers three times significantly increases your share if you win.
My GF and I found $160 laying on the sidewalk in Vegas in 1972. We were walking between two casinos after using a free drink coupon at the first one and a free roll of nickels at the second.

I think this is the wrong approach to playing the lottery. What I'd rather do is increase my odds of winning $100,000 to $2 million. I wouldn't even know what to do with $300 million, but a smaller jackpot would be a great financial cushion that wouldn't change my lifestyle very much.

I do understand that I have a very little chance of winning lottery...However, if I don’t play, I have no chance of winning...
Though the effects — bias, insufficient stirring, etc — were there they weren’t enough to get one wheel I constructed for the Texas Lottery to “win” more than 1 dollar for every 6 spent (had I bought the tickets, iirc it would have been $45 a play). The problem is, succinctly, that if you have enough numbers to get bias to really work for you a triplet wheel too easily absorbs them into unproductive combinations while a doublet wheel quickly becomes far too expensive. Insufficient stirring or avoiding extremes of combined number value helps a little but not enough ... even then it’s just luck is choosing what numbers form any given triplet (or doublet).
I would point out that the 5+1 powerball prevents such wheel tactics as triplets or doublets ... though the powerball itself disproportionately seems to fall in the 60s the only time I checked.
Lotteries are taxes on people who don’t understand math. If you do understand math you can go broke a tiny bit less slowly though.

I don’t get it. If he played the same numbers that means he bought 2 tickets, just at different stores so when the number was called he had the same winning ticket just with 2 shares of the jackpot instead of one. The headline makes it sound like he played 2 times and hit the jackpot 2 times, which would be incredibly lucky. Am I missing something?
He has a better chance of dying in an accident on his trip to and from the store to buy his tickets than he does of winning the jackpot.
Lottery players are not known for their math skills.
You need to double check that tip as it has been several years and ball sets do actually differ when it comes to bias (that’s another trick, correctly guessing which ball set they are gonna use). A different ball set may be currently in use in addition to them using different ball sets (or sets of sets) in rotation.
If you can import the past winning numbers and, if available, test draws into a database you can sort them. Then bring those over into a spreadsheet where each ball set has its own spreadsheet.
Prepare to be disappointed though, for a bit better than horrible odds is still pretty lame.
