BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) Bexar County is investigating after nearly 50 residents were locked out of their apartments at a San Antonio complex. They say they found their doorknobs bolted when they returned home on Monday. Thats despite a local moratorium on evictions thats currently in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is sad. It is sad when somebody put a key on the door, even though they dont have money for two or three months. Right now, we dont need that, says Luis Falcon, who son was locked out of his apartment. This is the first flagrant violation we had of this, and weve asked the district attorney and other law enforcement to look into it and see what kind options we have against the company who did that, says Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
The City of San Antonio has a program that helps residents cover their housing costs. In Travis County, evictions are prohibited until May 8 and those in violation could be fined $1,000 and/or face 180 days in jail. County Judge Sarah Eckhardt issued the order, which halts evictions, unless a tenant or a member of their household poses an imminent threat of physical harm to the property owner, the property owners employees, or other tenants, including other tenants within the household, or if there is criminal activity happening there.
I’ve seen this before. The leasing company says screw this and takes the whole complex Section 8. In less than a years time the whole neighborhood has become another barrio complete with gunfire and constant sirens all night long.
Most healthcare jobs take how many years training? And who will pay for this training?
Going from a $65/ hour engineering to a $12 to $15 manual labor job is a non-starter (thats all thats available now)
“good luck getting the landlord to come fix something..”
I don’t think you know how liberals work. This is basically screw the landlord.
Unless of course it is a minority-owned business and then POOF, the story disappears.
I can see a reporterette going to the office and asking “Do you have any white employees I can interview? If not, do you know any white people that might give an interview?”.
Sorry for your troubles my friend. Didn’t mean to sound insensitive. Hopefully it won’t be much longer. Take care and good luck.
Thats how the filthy Indian H1B bodyshops get away with hiring exactly no Americans. Dot Indians are minorities. So Americans can not even file an EEOC complaint.
That comment was rigjt up there with bloombergs about farming. Those two are a real pair of nads.
“Does no one set money aside and or have savings for an emergency such as this?”

The short of the long is that many folks are like the grasshopper in that they think Winter will never come.
My beloved explained to me quite early on in our marriage putting purchases on credit cards can kill a person’s future.
I would try to explain that to the women (and some men) who did not see the wisdom of participating in my company’s matching funds program. It was like trying to teach a dog to speak another language other than barking.
Who wouldn’t see the wisdom of putting away 6% of their paycheck with the company matching 80%? A lot of folks.
Don’t mean to disparage pooches, by the way. LOL
Guess I was fortunate. My dad sold life insurance for a time when I was a kid so I got good lessons in planning for the unexpected. Your right about credit cards...I’ve never understood the gimme it now and I’ll pay more later mentality. We have one card and it’s for emergencies only. If we can’t afford to pay for something we want (not need) we do without.
We had some incidents where school kid had went through the line, got to the cashier and were told their accounts were ‘closed’ and the food was dumped right in front of the kid.
I realize that is all they could do ‘legally’ as it couldn’t be put back but the practice was stopped quickly and now ‘volunteers’ show up at the schools and bring accounts up to date.
Really? I mean that sounds worse than what plenty of people complain about Trump saying.
IBTZ
The government probably figures that they can just create money as they please. Which is honestly pretty sad.
Does no one set money aside and or have savings for an emergency such as this? Everybody lives paycheck to paycheck nowadays?
From what Ive read, at least half of the country lives that way. No savings, to speak of.
Prolly a big percentage of those folks are libs, so theres that.
Scary, isnt it?
Whats Dave Ramseys recommendation? To have at least THREE months of expenses saved up.
Id venture to guess that these folks, in half the countrys population, dont have even one month saved.
If landlords cant evict are they still required to provide maintenance?
And, they are to supply toilet paper, hand sanitizer, frozen pizzas, and when requested, free rides to the grocery story and the doctor. Did you have another question?
I guess youre trying to be funny? Congrats on the attempt I guess
Do we HAVE to put a sarcasm tag? Maybe I didn't craft it with enough absurdity. Is everyone touchy, or just me? :)
I was supposed to start training to become an EMT before all of this went down. I’m immune suppressed though, so I’d have to take sick leave for something like this, and would probably lose my job as a result.
Under normal circumstances, I’d be just fine, but that’s more schooling I have to put off now after having run out of funds for nursing school several years ago. Kinda glad I didn’t finish, though. I don’t want to risk exposure.
