Thursday, April 30, 2020.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is allowing stay-at-home orders to expire Thursday, for Texas as he looks to open the state, but San Antonio has extended stay-at-home orders through May 19 and maintains the requirement of wearing a face mask or other face covering when near others.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas coronavirus death toll hit a single-day high of 50 on Thursday, just as the state was preparing for a slow reboot of one of the worlds largest economies by reopening retail, restaurants, malls and movies to limited amounts of customers.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbotts stay-at-home order expires Friday. The state-reported death toll of 119 over the past three days marks the deadliest stretch since Texas first fatality in the pandemic was recorded March 17. Thursdays 1,033 new cases is the first time the state has been over 1,000 since April 10.

New Jersey reported its highest one-day death toll during the coronavirus pandemic so far, Gov. Phil Murphy (D) announced Thursday.
Murphy reported with the heaviest of hearts 460 people died from the coronavirus on Wednesday in the state, surpassing Mondays 402 fatalities. The boost brings the states total death toll from the virus to 7,228 people.
The people we remember here every day are the faces of COVID-19, he said. They are not and they should never be seen as just numbers on a chart..
Imagine that.
Highest daily death toll on the eve of the day of reopening.
What a coincidence........

Another nail in the hope of Hot Weather theory. :(
Meanwhile, the highest in New York CITY (not the whole state) was at least 700, as far as I know.
TX had it’s highest deaths yesterday but we’re opening up today. Way to go, Gov. Abbott. Just brilliant. He says the next phase will open up bowling alleys. Woo hoo, rented shoes and who knows who’s fingers have been in those balls.
Our county doubled it’s cases last week and have more this week which is right on target from all the Easter tourists. But, hey, it’s more important to get those nail salons “legallly” open today. /s
