I hate that!
The one good thing about those little Jiffy pellets is that’s never an issue. It would probably be way too expensive for someone with a sizable operation but for just edging a suburban backyard I love it. I popped them I to the ground after digging holes with a bulb planter.

Sweeeeeet!! Woke up to all 12 tomato starts having rallied overnight. 10 standing straight and 2 at 80%.....
Saving the taproots and the decent soil must have made a difference.
