Interesting. I always wondered what happened to him.
We lost the next week to the hated Raiders.
Bert Jones was a tremendous player, Belichick continued. A tremendous player. Very athletic. He had an arm like no other, really. Ive never seen a player with the kind of flexibility he had in his arm. The kind of whip and accuracy. He had a quick delivery. He was a tremendous quarterback in an era that was a little bit different. But if he played today and was healthy, [wed all say], This guys really good.
Once he hurt his shoulder, he was never really the same, but it wasnt like he was ever not a good player. Some guys are up and down or whatever, but he was always good.
Interesting- Im an old fanatical BALTIMORE Colts fan. Never really got over what Irsay did to the city.
Bill Belly-Puke, a total disaster here in Cleveland for years, and then somehow goes elsewhere and becomes a genius. I’m so tired of hearing of his skill when considering how awful he was with the Browns. If it wasn’t for Brady, we’d never hear of him.
I remember Bert Jones with Roger Carr, one of the fasted wide receivers at the time, and hands like sticky paper. He’d outrun coverages really deep, and jones could still hit him. But if you played deep enough to cover that, he’d be wide open for mid-range passes, which jones could rifle in like a shot.
Once he got injured in 1977, he lost a step, and with Jones nursing his bad shoulder, it was never really the same.
And the owner wasn’t spending money for good players, because he wanted to leave anyway.
