Tell your friend that the so-called COBRA design slings make making a “heavier than average” shotgun OR a full-size rifle easier on the shoulder during a long day in the field.
Generally speaking, the COBRA slings are little if any more expensive than the “one width” & narrow “regular slings” are.

Depends on what kind of shotgun and what kind of stock, if you want to get technical. Does your friend want a Single Point or Two Point...Two Points are demonstrably better every day, all day.
Can’t go wrong with a Magpul MS1. Two points. Adjustable. Wide and simple to install and use.
Toss on some mounts and your friend is ready to go.
Just my 2cents.

also not a bad idea to get a good recoil system in place on it so you’re not sore after using it awhile.
Btw, IF you want a sling that will probably OUTLAST you, get a sling custom-made out of EXCELLENT-quality saddle leather.
My brown & black heavy-duty/padded sling that gets transferred from one rifle/shotgun to another to carry afield was made expressly to my design (YES, it has my name carved into it.) cost me the princely sum of 18.oo about 2 decades ago.
(I seriously doubt that it will need to be replaced in my lifetime.)

I have kept an 8 shot 12 gauge pump beside my bed for nearly 30 years.
The more I think about it I think I am mistaken. The shotgun is too powerful for indoors. I think I would be better served with a Ruger 10/22 and a quality 25 round mag. A couple of spares but really doubt the usefulness but why not?
I also don’t see a tactical sling for an indoor shotgun. Just else to get in the way.
I just had a “friend” that bought himself a semiauto shotgun last weekend.
if you empty the shotgun very quickly, then you will not need a sling.
answering as a friend
Do you really think that when you are awakened at 3:00am groggy eyed by an intruder that you will first strap on the sling?
Slugs seem like a poor choice for indoor use, and a good way to upset your neighbors.

I’ve taken all the slings off the rifles and shotguns that are for ‘home defense’. They just get in the way, and catch on doorhandles etc.
The only things that have slings on them anymore are things I am likely to carry for a long way, and on my long range rifles for stability.
