A 12 gauge shotgun indoors would be a brutal weapon. No doubt about that. It can be brutal at both ends tho. Several quick shots from a .22 would also be effective and easy to manage.

The Marlin is just as good a gun but accessories are what make the Ruger the choice. I grew up on a farm and came to respect the lowly .22.

We have wheelguns in .22 LR and .22 WMR. They'll leave a mark at close range. We also keep a .380 ACP in the top drawer of my nightstand, in case it's an after-hours disturbance, so I can get down the hall to my AR and riot gun. (I'd really like to own an old trench gun to keep in the bedroom closet, too.)
