An axe and hatchet, maybe a sabre or machete. Less paperwork. More satisfaction.
But an AK with a 75 round drum for backup.

Easy, Semi Auto Shotgun. If you can’t get a Semi Auto, then use an over and under. 12 Gauge 4shot.

An A-10 Warthog would be far more efficient

AR-15, with its 30 round magazine, is going to give you much more firepower. And swapping out mags is a lot easier and faster than reloading a shotgun. There’s a reason our military goes into combat with M-4s and not shotguns.

I have a son who is an AF pilot. Maybe that would work out if he could borrow one. ;)

No-brainer. AR-15. .12 Gauge 00 buck is really very heavy. You wont be able to carry much ammo. 5.56 MM, on the other hand, is super lightweight and you can easily carry hundreds of rounds. Hundreds.
And with an AR you can control a 600 yard radius around you. Shotguns are good only for about 50 yards. 5.56 will also go through armored vests. The list of reasons goes on and on...

Had a near incident the other night. No thought at all on choice, went for JTS. The rest of the story hall remain untold. No one got shot.

My preference would be several lines of Claymores. If they get though that, a flame thrower.
Back in the real world, a shotgun catches a person’s attention very quickly but a AR holds more rounds and can reload faster for a normal person. I think either weapon would do the job. Most of the protesters would run after a few .22 cals were shot at them. They are only brave when the victims don’t resist.

Deterrence? If you're looking to just brandish weapons, I guess the old nasty black gun would work. If you're using a pump shotgun, I'd work on your speed-loading skills first.
More sensibly would be to work out positions where you'd have cover and handy ammo stockpiles. Work out fields of fire with neighbors, rather than putting weapons out where the mob could overwhelm someone and take it to use on your family.
During the LA riots, we didn't go stand at ground level outside the store. Elevated positions or positions of cover from within the store where the choices made.

Thompson with a 50 round drum. More lead (heavier round) and more lead (bigger load) Somewhat offset by a higher rate of fire.
But let’s face it. Best bet would be a completely legal muzzle loading black powder cannon loaded with scrap metal.

Shotgun with 00Buck is pretty intimidating and/or a AK. The AK puts a lot more heavy lead down range than an AR when you’re talking about a crowd.
