in fact if you push things back beyond the 1950s, then societally things are better now than in the 1920s and 1930s
I’m not a reporter — I’m a sceptic who doesn’t believe a media piece or indeed any text unless I’ve read the opposing angle and figured it out for myself. No doubt my conclusions and opinions can be wrong, but at least I’m wrong on my own fault, not just taking what someone said uninvestigated.

You can cherry pick any stat to show whatever trend you want. Many upward trends are simply the result of technology. Having a smartphone doesn’t matter so much when your family is being randomly gunned down by drive by shooters.
I don’t buy the 800,000 abortions per year stat. Same source (AGI) claims Mexico was having 2 million abortions per year. Then Mexico City legalized abortion, making it available to the entire nation, and only several thousand legal abortions per year took place.
The problem is that Europe may be completely overwhelmed by the population surge in Africa. They could stop the current and future influx if they had the will to do so, but as of now none of the major European powers do have the will, with many leaders insanely saying mass immigration from Africa will save Europe from its demographic decline.
A small controlled amount of immigration is fine, but with the huge numbers involved here large parts of Europe may become de facto parts of Africa.
Orban is a rare treasure in Europe when it comes to having the “far right” desire for his country to remain a place for his countrymen.
Most of the larger, richer European nations have already given up. Or at least their leadership has. They’d rather import millions from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa than try to find ways to encourage their own people have more children.
Still though I agree that that things can change for the better, and it’d probably happen without government intervention. The problem Europe is facing is that by the time natives may possibly decide to have more children they may be minorities in their own lands.
It’d be much better if all of Europe greatly reduced immigration from outside the continent and then just lived with the consequences. The pain involved may spur them to have more children. Either way, it’d be better than Europe becoming an extension of Asia and Africa.
It isn’t that dire anymore because
1. stronger policing
2. stronger payoffs to the Libyans to keep migrants there
3. More news fed back to sub-Saharan Africa showing them that Europe is not a land of milk and honey for unskilled illegals
They ARE stopping the current influx and do have the will - you see it in Italy, France and Greece. Even Germany has stepped up the deportation.
No leaders since last year have said mass immigration will save Europe from its relative demographic decline.
The EU countries prefer skilled immigrants from Ukraine and also skilled LEGAL immigrants from Africa, Asia, Americas etc - but remember that the job market is tight, so there is less worry about RELATIVE demographic decline
One of the biggest lies told by Western politicians is that we need mass immigration to fill labor needs, i.e. the whole mantra of "they do the work we won't do" is common in Europe and both sides of the aisle here (even some people on this site like to repeat the line).
In fact, the highest unemployment rate in the western world is exactly among unskilled and semi-skilled workers. If there were a genuine labor shortage and a genuine need for mass Third World immigration, unemployment among the unskilled would be the lowest rather than the highest in that sector.
Boat landings with illegal aliens from Africa have increased in Italy since the former center-right coalition government fell apart and was replaced by a left coalition. Former interior minister Salvini was excellent regarding migration, but the new govt is terrible on that front.
You may be right that none of the European leaders have spoken of a need for mass immigration this year, but you don’t have to go back to far to find such comments. I don’t think those people have changed their mind. When you have a leftist mindset, and suffer from white guilt, and are self loathing, or maybe more so just loathe your fellow native countrymen, then you’re fully and strongly committed to unending mass immigration.
But I hope you’re right. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Germany, France, and Italy. And the places I visited were still largely made up of Germans, French, and Italians. I hope it remains that way. I’m doubtful those places will remain so wonderful if that doesn’t remain that way.
