What part of Texas in particular?
Had no problem in North Texas in growing these.
A large variety of tall bearded. The main culprit
here were the grasshoppers. They ate everything (including bark off trees). The raccoons ate the grasshoppers.

Thanks for the link to White Flower Farm.
The Iris gardens open for retail are falling like flies.
Argyle Iris Farm - CLOSED
Cooley’s - CLOSED They were in business since 1928.
To walk these gardens at bloom time is the dream of many iris lovers.

very pretty :)

I didn’t appreciate iris much until I moved to an arid environment. It’s the only flower the gophers and rabbits won’t destroy. The purple ones I have take heat, direct hot sun and dry conditions well, flowering in cooler temps with more water. And, big bonus, they’re one of the very few desert-adaptable flowers that don’t have thorns!

They do well in an arid environment. And when blooming, those extra tall stalks tend to attract the worst of spring storms each year. Never fails, just before a scheduled garden show, there will be high winds and possibly hail. One year we toured with the AIS garden tour (the private gardens in the DFW area). Such a great time riding the bus, touring the gardens. Walk away with garden ideas and a number of names for the newer hybrids which would look spectacular in any person’s garden.
