Scientists can tell you everything about Venus based on a couple crafts that orbited or landed on the planet and functioned a couple minutes.
They didn't even use any soil samples from the many expeditions to Mars. Even if they're right that the surface is made by Ice sheets that means NOTHING to Mars ancient past.
