Following a morning meeting of the conference's presidents, the Big Ten on Tuesday has decided to cancel the college football season for fall 2020 with hopes of playing in spring 2021, league sources tell CBS Sports. With this decision, the Big Ten has become the first Power Five conference to decide not to play this fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sentiment throughout college football entering Sunday night was that the Big Ten and Pac-12 would cancel their seasons this week. However, the combination of outspoken coaches and the #WeWantToPlay X #WeAreUnited movement that developed suddenly late Sunday seemed to give pause to the five major conferences.
Big Ten coaches -- including Ohio State's Ryan Day, Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Penn State's James Franklin and Nebraska's Scott Frost -- publicly advocated for playing the 2020 season on Monday. However, their pleas and those of Big Ten players were not enough to change the collective minds of Big Ten leaders.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Big Ten announced that "multiple factors" including the "medical advice and counsel" from its experts led to what it is deeming the "postponement of the 2020-21 fall sports season."

Who didn't see this coming?
Hope NOT! Of course that would be racis’.
What’s that great sucking sound you hear from the sports networks? Money going down the drain. Question...do the players keep their free ride and tutoring etc?
This is going to cost them so much money. I feel bad for the players, but I have no sympathy for the liberal infested administration.
Spring football will be an oddity, a mild curiousity, and the money they get will be a small fraction. Football may survive, but all the sports football supports are in real danger.
For real this time?
Can the seniors form a league quick?
Spring football is dumb. Don’t do it. 2020 is a bust. .. Time to prepare for 2021.
Punting my HULU all-college football plan now.
Yes, they do.
No, I don’t think so. It certainly would not be sanctioned by the NCAA or by the colleges and universities. So no stadiums, no uniforms, no equipment etc.
Once people realize they dont miss this stuff it will break them of their habit and will never come back
Just cancel all sports and be done with it.
Hell, that’s what they intend to do anyway.
I don’t know about that, but there was lots of coverage on local Nebraska news about Scott Frost and the players, all saying they want to play football, and they’ll play whatever teams can play if Big 10 cancels on them.
Hopefully there is not some huge penalty by NCAA and/or Big 10 for schools to go ahead and make up their own schedules, outside of the conference.
No players really good will play in Spring football. They will sit it out for the NFL draft, or other reasons.
Good. Anything that screws with university revenues is a good thing for the US.
So no bowl games either?
I know many here dont, but some people actually like sports. This dumb idea that a missed season is going to break a habit is just that...dumb. Kneeling for the anthem, too much wokeness, etc might turn people off for good, but this stupid COVID insanity aint going to do it.
