I think you’re wrong. Many, many people stopped watching pro baseball after the 04-95 lockout of players by the owners. Look it up. And this is far more serious.
In my 10 years as a college professor (after a 30 year industry career) my observation was that colleges and universities are run by marxist morons. I never observed anyone in leadership at my university who could live in the real world for more than a few months. The football deliberations have validated my observation. It hasn’t helped that education in the US (K-PhD) cranks out ill educated marxists in greater numbers than Apple manufactures iPhones.
From the NCAA, not if the SEC plays, there won't be. The NCAA is scared to death of the SEC.
Bigger problem would be the B10 trying to strong-arm them.
Nebraska makes more money in the B10 than they did in the B12, but they've never liked the B10. If they rejoined the B12 for this season, the B10 might not do anything, cause the Huskers would have a soft landing spot in the B12, & the B10 might not want to shove them the rest of the way out the door.
Tom Osborne was the one who kept trying to push Nebraska out of the B12. Now that he's gone, anything can happen.
I always thought he looked like the warden in a prison movie.
People will simply find something else to bet on.
Won’t take long before fans forget about professional and college sports.
bump
Who cares about semi pro sports anyway?
Some of us do.
College Football is MUCH more exciting and important than the National Felons League, The Chinese Basketball Association (NBA), Baseball or golf.
Its not right that College Football is cancelled, while the NFL and the Chinese NBA play. No Americans care about that garbage.
University of Michigan said they will lose 80 million.
Well good for you! I hope you continue to enjoy your activities. Then again, since you had no interest in attending games or watching on TV to begin with, I guess your lack of interest wont affect things one way or the other.
I dont have to look it up. I remember it well. And as I recall, interest waned because of anger toward the players making millions who wanted to punish the fans to wring more money out of the owners. Thats not the case here.
If you read my post carefully, I acknowledge that the BLM protests might turn people off long term. Its just silly to think that a cancelled season will somehow cause life long fans to have an epiphany that they never really liked the game but were just suffering from an addiction.
Understood. Maybe you’re right. For myself, I won’t know if I will return to watching the few sports that I did watch until it comes back. I only watched college basketball and football, and only “my” teams. If there is a hint of kneeling or blm support I am done and I won’t look back.
It sounds like your view is the same as mine. Much more willing to blow off pro sports but college is my main focus. Just my teams. I wont put up with bring lectured to every Saturday, but a season off will not cure my addiction.
