I can foresee, sooner rather than later, the strange sight of NYC as a city not where there are (obvious) divisions between rich and poor, ( a situation which has long been true of most big cities) but a city where there are ONLY rich, with the “lesser rich” being those owners/operators of shops, restaurants,businesses frequented by the rich. Strange as that sounds. everybody who can get out will get out. They’ve started housing the homeless, the drug addicted, in vacant (decent, not flea-bag) hotels at the Mayor’s order. They will probably die there. NYC I am afraid I see no hope for. Its perennial problems were already too much for it to handle in the best of times, but since the Draconian Covid lockdown, and then the looting rioting, etc. it has really been pushed over the edge, past a point of no return. It’s going to go down in history as the saddest and more regrettable thing to ever happen to Urban America.
