Some of that has to do with liability. A delivery company, for example, is liable for their drivers and doesn’t want to hire people who may show up high on something and kill people.

I worked in a large research lab with lots of ‘fun’ stuff.
Like 1,000 PSI hydrogen and sometimes higher PSI, everywhere a valve on most workbench/fume hoods.
Remember the Hindenburg?

Before the pre-employment interview, you agree to a pre-employment drug test, an annual and subject to random testing, if hired.

One word from the safety people and you were toast.
