Tulsa bodycam video released Two officers shot, one dead
Tulsa, Oklahoma The body camera footage from the murder of Sergeant Craig Johnson and the attempted murder of Officer Aurash Zarkeshan has been released by Tulsa Police Department. At 3:06 am Officer Zarkeshan stopped David Ware after he failed to yield when pulling onto the roadway, made an illegal left turn, and operated a vehicle with expired tags. At 3:23 am, 11 minutes later, suspect Ware fired multiple rounds at the officers.
Sergeant Craig Johnson died as result of injuries from the shooting.
Officer Zarkeshan was critically wounded and continues to recover.
I don't think so. If he exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand the cops would have seen it. I believe the suspect drew the gun from his waist area.
I hate to be a Monday morning quarterback, but the cops should have called for back up as soon as it was clear this POS was going to be a problem.

Actually, the second cop was backup that was called by the first cop.
I watched it in slo-mo and it appeared to me he reached in. The bigger point is that it wasn’t the cops gun.
Rural Oklahoma, not a lot of cops around.
Honestly, they were too lenient with him. I personally would have tased him far sooner, but he was squirmy when they started to pull him out. That alone was a big red flag to viewers. He kept reaching into the car, and while you’re trying to get control of him, it’s easy to lose what his hands are doing. This guy was more than a handful.
Fvcking terrible. My God. I’m sure the gun was owned illegally too, hence his resilience in getting out. He didn’t want them finding it.
If he’d just gotten out, they would have all walked away. This breaks my heart.
What ticks me off is their nightsticks were taken away in favor of a taser which we’ve just seen does absolute sh*t.
May the Lord grant the repose of Sergeant Johnson’s soul and console his family.
I’ll go with that.
That was shocking. The law officers did their best to treat the perp in the best manner possible, going as far as giving the perp every chance to cooperate, and for their trouble one law officer had his life snatched away and the other is fighting for his. This actually shows why law officers in the US will approach a suspect vehicle or building with guns drawn - things can shift south in the blink of an eye and they need to be constantly vigilant. A very sad video.
Same thing for pepper sprays and their stronger OC versions. They work and work well, but if someone is properly motivated or drugged their effect can be somewhat diluted.
A heavy nightstick to the head though will work even against the most pain resistant attacker!
I also viewed it frame by frame. Again, if he’d grabbed a gun from the inside of the vehicle, it would have been in his hand when he exited the vehicle and the cops would have seen it immediately. I’d bet a cup of coffee he drew from his waistband after exiting the vehicle and during the struggle outside the vehicle.
I’ve watched it only as far as several repeated arguments from the officers. Besides the driver’s behavior, they knew about his history. I’m thinking that they allowed that situation to go on for too long, and I will continue watching the video now.
Before continuing to watch, I’ll say that video would probably be good as a training video for academies and am guessing that it will be.
I didn’t do frame by frame and you are probably right.
Yep, they use to call it a “wooden shampoo” and would be the first thing a cop would pull if someone was trouble. Just showing it was enough to get thugs to back down. My dad was a cop in New York city in the 1960s and 70s, he use tell me this stuff all the time.
I think they should make it mandatory that all police officers while on duty must wear bullet proof vests. That won’t stop all the police deaths but will probably cut them in half!!
In fact, go to near the end of the video, watch frame by frame starting at 9:58, you can actually see part of his right arm and it clearly appears he’s drawing from his waist area. Subsequently within seconds the suspect raises up his gun and starts shooting.
That actually makes the most sense for why he was so afraid to get out of the car. As usual, the patience of the 2 officers was unreal.
I will add, unfortunately, the suspect was really fast and very accurate.
Now that I’ve watched it several times, I’m pretty confident you can see him drawing from his waist right after 9:58.
Terrible ending.
