Eddie Lynch couldnt believe it. Hes lived off of Clearwater Beach for more than 35-years and has never had an issue in the water, until Saturday.
It was shortly before noon when he went out for a swim when he noticed a large dolphin swimming next to him and then he stopped. So did the dolphin. For a moment the two were face to face.
Eddie Lynch speaks from the balcony of his residence. And, uh, I said I gotta get out of here, said Lynch. And I started turning my body this way and he caught my hand and he had the whole hand in his mouth.
Lynch was able to make it to shore. His hand was bloodied from the bite. A good samaritan told him to take off his shirt, and used that to stop the bleeding. Lynchs wife is a physician and took him to the emergency room for treatment.
Lynch and his wife sent pictures of his injuries to experts at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Robin Curry is one of their managers who spends a lot of hands-on time with dolphins.
She says its hard to say from the pictures if the bite marks are from a dolphin.
Robin Curry feeds two of the dolphins at Clearwater Marine Aquarium It could be a case of mistaken identity where it was a different species, not neccessarily a dolphin, said Curry. Or a mistaken identity on the fact that if a dolphin was hunting or another animal was hunting like a shark they could accidentally take something that wasnt a fish.
Lynch says there is no doubt in his mind that the bite did in fact come from a dolphin. Hes sharing his story as a warning to others who enjoy time in the warm gulf waters.
Dolphins are not little play things, said Lynch. People come up to them because they see them being fed and see them doing this
and people will go out and try to touch them and play with them. These are wild dolphins.
So, Flipper wasn’t true?
The dolphins are now going crazy?
Just when I thought the Left couldn’t get more crazy, RBG dies...then dolphins FLIP out.
(ok, you can ban me for that one)
There have been enough recorded incidents of dolphins attacking people to serve as a warning that these animals should never be assumed to be friendly.
No, the guy wasn’t a Miami Dolphin fan. They play rough down there.
Maybe the dolphin thought the swimmer supported a team other than Miami, and wasn’t happy about that? :P
I saw a recent report about killer whales attacking boats as well. My guess is the members of the dolphin family are finally fed up with environmentalists and have decided to take it out on all of us.

Wrong coast. This is Buc’s territory.
So they left a message:
We were out fishing in the gulf many years ago and noticed a bunch of dolphins swimming beside the boat. We stopped and watched them for awhile and I decided to fall overboard and start thrashing around and see what they would do. Apparently they had seen that trick before and just watched me.
It’s not Snowflake!

Im convinced that the dolphins and the Labrador and Golden retrievers have teamed up to slaughter us all and take over the world under the slogan No more Mr. Nice Guys. Naturally theyll start in Florida.
Just remember: dolphins = orcas - sweet paint job.
Miraculously, I was not devoured.

I was at a small aquarium show on cape cod 40 years ago. Waiting for the dolphin show a handler tossed me a ball and said play catch with the dolphins. I did. It was nice. I went to pet one of the dolphins. He grabbed my hand quite firmly and then let go. No skin broken. I got the message.
A firm handshake is always good.
