There’s a lot of primal instinct left in cats. Reputation for firnedliness or not, I’d be reluctant to turn my back in one of those. Republicans aren’t the only ones who can pounce, you know

Yes indeed, cat food is junk. My vet insists that DaisyJane has Royal Canin. Since she is a mostly house cat, she’s gained a bit too much weight so I get Royal Canin Reduced Calorie. She loves it. Also gets 1/3 can FancyFeast Turkey in Gravy every night. She hates the turkey but licks up the gravy. Important because, in general, cats don’t drink enough water.

We’ve got a Drinkwell, which our guys have always liked. Thanks to that and a decent diet, we’ve never had a urinary tract problem with any of our cats.

Hmmm... I wonder if her real name was Jones?

Speaking of, just watched Alien the other night. Still a brilliant film after 40 years...

they are a pretty friendly cat- to their owners- not so much towards strangers in some cases- They are pretty docile in the house- preferring to lay around a lot of the day-

But yeah- if there are young kids in the house- I’d be reluctant to own one if i liked cats-

We have a “kitten” (almost 1 yr old) that looks much like that cat and weighs 18 lbs! We’ve been wondering if it may have some Maine Coon in him.
He so funny running around chasing toys because he is huge!

I had a HUGE kitty like these I think he had coon in him he was not a purebred he just kept growing and growing he looked like a small polar bear, he had apricot points with white fur, the fur was also like a coon the grooming was constant, thick, thick fur! He just passed a few months ago at the ripe old age of 18, he was the BEST cat I have ever had the pleasure of owning!!

Well they certainly dont take themselves too seriously, rare in this hyper sensitive day. Good on them.

My neighbor had a hugely fat cat. It was the food. My neighbor just filled up her bowl every day with the cheap stuff.

Dogs do well on raw diets (correctly balanced). I’m trying a prepared raw diet for my new cat. So far so good on 2 small meals a day.

The cat here likes ice water, (in snooty cat voice) “Thank you very much.” He’ll ignore the water bucket for days, but as soon as there is ice, he’s in there drinking merrily away.

Weird cat. Kills lots of rats though, so he has a home here. He gets at least one a week. One evening he brought home an entire family: mama rat and four little ones. GOOD kitty!

As for cat food, he won’t eat anything soft ever. No tuna, or salmon, or any tinned product. MAYBE once in a blue moon he’l take a taste of the dog food. One taste. And he will spit it out half the time. Kirkland (Costco) kibble is what he likes best, so that’s what he gets. He’s strong and healthy, so...

Drinkwell is a nice thing. Tried it with Daisy and she said NO. Since she’s 100% in charge of everything, I obey. She does have a water bowl and I buy filtered water because water in our town is horrible. Straight out of the river with only aeration to “clean” it. Environmental Working Group, which I subscribe to, ranks our water as a 9 on a scale of 1 - 9 with 9 being the worst. Lead and other nasty chemicals in it. She does drink water but not enough. She’s never had tap water, but occasionally is seen drinking out of the toilet.

Cats have evolved more as co-travelers, than domesticated pets

We use filtered water, too! We also, after consulting with our vet, add just a bit of water to every serving of wet food. And we serve mostly wet food, with healthy but awesomely tasty and stinky kibble for treats.

Our guy us a water baby. Loves playing in it. But hates snow with a passion. I think it’s because he’s really short-furred.

We have a female calico named Abigail who’s about seven and she probably weighs in the 15 lbs range. The kids tagged her as Largel and Miss Piglesworth for her girth. My daughter and a nephew over fed her for a long time. My wife has put her on a diet lol! I have a male Maine Coon who’s the same age and he’s a feather compared to Miss Piglesworth.
