He thought they were bobcats.

He says he didn’t realize they were cougar cubs. He saw them in the distance and thought they were grown bobcats. He obviously also didn’t see the mother who was probably 10 yards in front of the cubs, lying on the road.
He was jogging up the road. I got within kicking distance of a coyote that was watching baby quail, once. And spitting distance of bears can be done.

millennials will do it every time - mom or dad will fix it if something goes wrong.
