Dominic Cummings arrived home with a bottle of champagne tonight after Boris Johnson ordered him to leave Downing Street for good.
After a week of turmoil, the Prime Minister told his most senior adviser to go with immediate effect in a bid to end the toxic rows at No 10.
Lee Cain, who announced his resignation as Mr Johnson's director of communications on Wednesday after Carrie Symonds thwarted his promotion to chief of staff, was also sent home.
It was claimed last night that Mr Johnson had accused the pair of Vote Leave campaign veterans of briefing against his fiancée.
In a tense 45-minute meeting he is reported to have shown them incriminating text messages which had been forwarded to his fiancée. The explosive claims were denied by No10.
It is understood that Mr Cummings and Mr Cain will be on gardening leave until mid-December. Mr Cummings may continue to work from home to tie up loose ends, but neither man is expected back at No 10.
A Downing Street source said Mr Johnson 'wanted to clear the air so the Government can move forward'.

This whole Cummings thing is way too theatrical , we are being “played” , the box , leaving via front door , out buying Champagne tonight and in a semi clear bag ? Like they don’t have cases of the stuff ,this is orchestrated and like everything this shoddy government does ,badly

Carrie Symonds? Looked her up and now I understand why Boris wants to drive Britain down the Green superhighway madness. I wonder if, years from now, he’ll look back and regret all the long-term damage he’s doing to his nation?

I think the Queen needs to shut this whole thing down, she has the power and she needs to use it.
Right now, I appreciate the benefits of having a monarch, although I really don’t want one here.

Not keeping up enough to know what it does to Brexit etc.
Cummings may be a man who seeks revenge behind the scenes.
There is also a slight possibility that Boris made a deal with Cummings for show and that he will still be advising behind the scenes..but I think that chance is slim to nil. Simply because Girlfriend wants him gone and Boris is whipped.
Also might be suffering long term effects from Covid...which can alter your brain/thinking
Hopefully, Shadow Lord Chancellor David Lammy will be disappointed in his desire to feel hope once again. Screw you, my lord.
Johnson is no conservative. He will abouy face at some point and steer Britain back into the E.U in the interest of ‘international peace and unity’
