The U.S. military is developing Navy destroyers to take out hypersonic missiles and a ship off the coast of Hawaii has successfully tested the potential innovation, according to Warren Maven editor Kris Osborn on Fox News.

An “engage on remote” intercept of an ICBM test Nov. 16 was successful from ship-fired SM-3 IIAs, Osborn reported.

“In this developmental test, the destroyer used engage-on-remote capabilities through the Command and Control Battle Management Communications network as part of a defense of Hawaii scenario,” a Missile Defense Agency statement read, per the report. “After receiving tracking data from the C2BMC system, the destroyer launched an SM-3 Block IIA guided missile which destroyed the target.”

Pentagon weapons developers are inspired by the successful test and might weigh its benefits for sea-based missile defense systems against hypersonic missiles. …

For anyone who is interested in current military affairs, weaponry, strategy, etc, my favorite site on the web is:

https://www.realcleardefense.com

They are run by the same people that run real clear politics. They have a variety of sites, such as realclearscience.com realclearhealth.com, etc. Look at real clear politics website, and look just below the red bar for the different sites they have. There several hours of reading informative articles on a wide variety of topics.

Is “engage on remote” the SAM version of “lock on after launch” that the Hellfire and ASRAAM can use?

US Navy used RTLOS (Remote Track Launch on Search) in early 1990s.

boy I hate to sound like a downer but what does it matter in a one world government?

we’re rotting from within at warp speed.

if biden takes this thing, God Forbid, he’ll use our military Maybe against mickey mouse countries to make the mil-ind-complex money

but China will be able to do whatever they want.

and if he gets too till, kamala harris, with all of her broad international affairs experience will be at the helm.

If Trump wins, this is all great.

If he doesn’t, it’s all just pretty and expensive stuff that will never be used against a real enemy

...may take out hypersonic missles...
Then again, it may not.
Is that what we are to infer?
Can take out.
Will take out.
Or does it need some kind of conditions like; temperature between 65 - 72 F, relative humidity 40% - 60%, wind less than 25 mph or some othe such nonsense?
I supose the Sun may rise tomorrow.

The Biden/Harris administration will scuttle the system.

Fixed: The U.S. military Navy is developing a destroyer launched missile to take out hyper-sonic missiles

Not really, but sort of. The HarrisBiden administration, at the direction of President Xi Jinping, will include that system in the auction of all US military hardware, with China getting first dibs on whatever systems they chose - in exchange for some campaign cash to go toward the perpetual rein of the HarrisBiden administration.

You sound like one of those downers who scoffed at President Regan’s Star Wars missile defense plans - plans BTW that have developed ABM missile systems that are in use today. The test indicates that hypersonic intercept and destruction ARE possible. Technology advances - individual bias not so.

Gee whiz Gozilla what steps do you take to cultivate your naivete?
By the way, before I tansferred to MDAC-KSC in ‘84 I worked at the “missle plant” in Titusville. Star Wars? Don’t know what your talking about. It sure as hell wasn’t called Star Wars.

Blissful ignorance on your part. In the Regan era it WAS referred to as Star Wars. Things have come a long way even from ‘84. Get up to date.

Note that the targets are ballistic hypersonic vehicles, and the new facet is multiple adaptive defensive shots at a single ballistic vehicle.

Good news that does not encompass all hypersonic threats.

You weren’t there, you don’t know. It wasn’t called Star Wars by those in the program.

Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) was referred to as “Star Wars”, in the greater collective of government and nation. And like those who said it couldn’t be done, you are saying hypersonic intercept can’t be done. Deal with it.
