The local ‘news’ channels are for morons. They have so little content as to be useless. A simple traffic accident has to be stated 10 times in 10 different ways.

Typical traffic report on local news: “There is an accident at I-25 and Yale in the right lane. See, here, in the right lane there is an accident. That is the right lane ay I-25 and Yale, near Hamden, and it is blocked. The emergency crews are there for that accident in the right lane at I-25 and Yale. Be careful at I-25 and Yale where this accident is blocking the right lane. Traffic is backed up all the way to Hamden for this accident in the right lane at I-25 and Yale.”

I dumped television back in 1997. Around 2005 I got a job where I travelled around the country and was exposed to a lot of local news in hotel rooms. My takeaway was that the report as if their audience is in 7th grade. All of ‘em.

Two local news casters in the Knoxville TN area stories:

1) I was sitting at my dining room table and listening to the 6:00pm news and the airhead in the studio went to the reporter beside a busy interstate exit where the body of a nude woman had been found wrapped in barbed wire. As the studio bimbo went to the reporter her comment was deadly serious tones “Well Heather is there any signs of foul play in the death of this woman?” The reporter had this WTH look on her face and my wife and I were in mid bite of food and we just looked at one another, did we just hear what we heard?

2) the anchor at the tv station was breathlessly reporting the finding of a body in a nearby small town that had been partially eaten by a black bear. He threw it to the reporter in the field which gave the details and that authorities had captured the bear that had eaten the body and threw it back to the in studio anchor who proceeded to state that authorities hadn’t had a chance yet to question the bear they had captured. Again me and my brother who was with me at the time looked at one another with the WTH did we just hear look.
