I could always tell when my neighbor was almost home from work, about ten minutes before she would arrive her dog would come out of the doggie door on to the porch and get excited,

then sure enough about ten minutes later she pulls up, and not always at the exact time of day, its like the dog would sense her coming from miles away

Could it be possible that your neighbor told her dog when she will be home and the dog watched the clock?

My ex husband had a parrot — I think it’s called a Brazilian Grey — since he was a small boy. When he went to college the parrot stayed at home with his parents. After we were married we’d drive the four hours to visit his parents to surprise them. After about three visits they knew how to read the “signs” Pedro gave them. As soon as we started the trip, he would sit in the corner of his cage, get agitated in a good way, and start saying, “David. David.” After that, they were ready for us when we got there; no surprise.
