Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings,

Darn, I cannot watch it. They want me to turn off my VPN or allow cross-tracking cookies, or...sign in. Won’t do any of them.

I do like that song, one of my favorites. I have always enjoyed a hearty version sung with gusto.

I miss caroling. When I was young, I remember actually caroling around our neighborhood. Different times.

A very Merry Christmas you you, Berlin_Freeper. Best to you and yours, and thank you for posting this.

I’ve heard there have been different interpretations of the lyrics, based on whether it reads :

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, with the comma after Merry, or

God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen, with the comma before Merry.

God rest ye merry....gentlemen. That’s how proper Brits sing it.

The last month or so has arguably been one of the most depressing and negative times in my life. The election was one of them, but probably counted for less than a quarter. Personal issues, loss of friends, that kind of thing.

But in all that, I felt a powerful force to the season, and it really helped me out. I have always loved this time of year, though I do completely understand why some people simply detest it...and I feel bad for them.

But with everything else that made me feel completely alienated swirling around, the memories and feelings this season evokes for me and the feeling of being closer to God has managed to make me smile, grin, and laugh.

And there is nothing...absolutely nothing that blows away negative feelings more unequivocally than laughing, because it makes those feelngs so insignificant.

Especially if you can laugh at them.

And Free Republic has helped a great deal. If there is one thing I have fully accepted, is that the kind of humor I so often see on Free Republic resonates with me and makes me feel a kinship, albeit only through words and symbols rather than in person.

The kind of humor that hits my funny bone most often is the kind that is a little on the bawdy side, with some well placed, well constructed, and well applied wit. There is so much talent on Free Republic for all forms of humor, even if it does cross over into the darker side.

But making me snort involuntarily at reading a ribald twist on something is good medicine to me! It is nice to have a smile to make you remember what you have to be grateful for.

And I get that a lot. I hoped too with that link, but I have some nice versions I can hear...:)

And it’s punctuated correctly, too.
