Read the trial transcript. Ross Ulbricht is a murderous drug dealer. His sentence is well justified.

I can't quickly find a link to the transcript of the sentencing hearing, but it is very persuasive in showing the deaths of some of his victims and justifying the sentence imposed.
Appeals decision in the Second Circuit The appeals court looked at the case with a sceptical eye, but still found nothing that should be reversed, including the sentence.
Nick Bolton's book American Kingpin This well-researched book leaves no doubt about Ulbricht's guilt in a massive illegal drug trafficking ring, including his conspiracy to commit murder. The murder charges against Ulbricht are unproven, not disproven. Bolton's "Notes on Reporting" state:
Using an Excel database, my research and I were able to pull all of this information into one place and cross-reference every moment from 2006 to 2013 -- in many instances down to the second. And with that, everything matched up neatly. For example, when the Dread Pirate Roberts talked to his lieutenants on the Silk Road about taking a weekend off for a short trip, on that same weekend Ross Ulbricht and his friends posted pictures of him camping. When Ross booked flights to Dominca, the Dread Pirate Roberts was unavailable at the exact moment the flight took off and returned online, in a different time zone, when Ross landed. He was NOT charged, indicted or convicted of the murder for hire allegation.

Drug dealers should be publicly executed by slow hanging or firing squad, on nationwide TV.
He was not a dealer. He simply ran a platform akin to eBay
Ross Ulbricht is a murderous drug dealer. He facilitated the sale of heroin, organ harvesting, ricin -- anything to make money. And he conspired to murder. He paid the fees for more than one murder. Whether the murders took place or whether he got scammed by a real or pseudo hitman is not known.
These were unproven allegations by the DA made in the media
HE WAS NEVER TRIED, convicted, charged or indicted of these allegations.
Why be a dupe for a criminal who has money to run a propaganda campaign?
