So glad to know that I am not alone. Been working hard for ten years (by my lonesome) to build a safe place in the countryside, that will alloy family and friends to live off the grid in a civilized manner while the country tears itself apart

My family is all dead, so I don’t have that circle anymore. I have a niece with a family that I enjoy spending time with, but again, we live away from each other, so our visits are few. My two sons live away from me, so we correspond, and visit each other when we can. I have no grandchildren, and that’s fine with me. We don’t talk politics when we do see each other. I can count the number of close friends I have on one hand...and that’s the way I like it. We don’t see each other that often either, but we keep in touch. I live a life of solitude, and privacy, and have been doing that since I retired in 2003. My life is the way I want it. If I wanted arguments over politics, I’d turn on cable news, but I’d be arguing with myself. I stopped watching all news programming many years ago. Life is too short to spend it listening to the crap spouted by biased morons. I’m not a glutton for punishment. My oldest son was sick for Christmas, so we postponed our dinner until this coming weekend. He’ll come, we’ll eat, open our presents, and then watch something on the Roku. The next day he’ll head back home, and the cycle will start again. Some people might think that’s boring, but I am happy being alone, and doing the things I want to do, not what anyone else thinks I should be doing.
How do you lose your country? Slowly, then all at once.
