I realize there are good & bad just like in any walk of life.
However, I prefer to never talk to the police because before you know it - with coercion techniques - they can make something stick and have you admit to anything.

On Netflix they have a show called “Confession Tapes” that goes over various crimes and their confessions. IIRC, I came away thinking that many of them didn’t do the crime, but some of them did. But they are all(?) in prison now.
One guy was convicted of something terrible (raping and killing a girl??). IIRC he finally agreed that he had been there, but that another guy did the raping and killing. They did find the other guy’s DNA at the scene - but the other guy kept his mouth shut, and he got off (or was never charged).
