“ Campers in Khao Yai were shocked out of their sleep on Friday morning when a wild elephant invaded the camping ground and killed an old man sleeping in his tent.”

Major takeaway...
Never sleep in an elephants tent.

Hi.
I have an idea that might help the friendly Thai community. Stop shooting the elephants. It pisses them off.

Hell, I didn’t like to get shot at either. It pissed me off too.

“The elephant...entered the tent of Prayod Chitboon”

Prayod must have had a HUGE tent. Poor guy...what a way to go.

Khao Yai officials said later that the dead man’s car was filled with pomelos and the animal was possibly lured by the load.

Blaming the victim. How would this elephant knew which tent the car owner was sleeping in?

RIP old Thai dude. That was an original way to go!

Officials also found Bt103,108 (S$4,500) in cash among Prayod’s belongings

Well, apparently money was not the motive.

“...killed an old man sleeping in his tent.”

Why was the old man sleeping in the elephant’s tent?

We had a collection which all the kids in the city participated in to buy a baby elephant for the zoo. Cindy the elephant was quite popular and doted on by all. My wife's 2nd grade class went to visit the elephant. All the kids were given peanuts to give to Cindy. Cindy went from child to child taking the peanuts and putting them in her mouth.

My wife decided the hell with that, she was going to eat the peanuts herself. When Cindy got to her she clutched her handful of peanuts and would not give them up. Cindy started trying to get them out of her hand, and then started slapping her in the face with her big snotty trunk. But my wife would not give them up and grabbed Cindy's trunk with her left hand and started punching her in the nose. All the kids and teachers started yelling at my wife. Two teachers lifted my wife off the ground by her arms and threw her back in the bus. Cindy got agitated and had to be put back in her Cindy barn.

My wife's dad who was a tough as nails combat veteran who served in the army for 28 years was called to the school. The teachers read the riot act to him, he then asked my wife what had happened. She had red marks and eventually bruises all over her face. On the way home instead of punishing her he said it was too bad that she hadn't been armed with his trusty 45. I think that is one of the events that made my wife turn out the way she did and one of the reasons I love her so much.

"Elephant raids Thailand camping ground, flings man to his death."

The elephants in this country do that, primarily to registrants of their own party.

I know Khao Yai Ntl Park very well and have spent quite a bit of time there , hiking and exploring . There are definitely wild elephants , and some tigers too. All sorts of wildlife in those cool mountains, the closest natural forest getaway from Bangkok. It’s beautiful. But I always rented a cabin and never tent camped . For the very reason if the wildlife . You could end up with a cobra in your tent. I can still.hear the sound of the deep Thai jungle , at night, in my head. I would hear the sound of the occasional roar , or elephant trumpeting. Awesome stuff . Gibbon troops singing in the forest canopy .

If the elephant wanted the pomelos, he would have attacked the car. He was probably in must (i.e., over-the-top horny, hopped up on the pachyderm equivalent of testosterone) and just looking for trouble.

Bull elephant in must. Even the “tame” bulls have to be chained when in must.
