Salvatore Anello, the man who pleaded guilty last year in connection with his 1-year-old granddaughter's fatal fall from a cruise ship, has been sentenced to three years of probation, Puerto Rican authorities announced Monday. Anello was charged with negligent homicide in the death of Chloe Wiegand, who fell more than 100 feet from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship window in July 2019.
Wiegand fell from the docked ship after Anello held her up against what he said he believed was a set of closed windows and she slipped from his hands. Surveillance video obtained by CBS News showed the moments before the fatal fall, in which Wiegand ran to the windows with Anello trailing behind her. Anello could then be seen picking her up and holding her over the railing.

I dunno what to think about the sentencing... What a horror this grandfather must live through daily. At least the man had the class to plead guilty.
I normally would want a stronger sentence but he’s probably a disaster anyway. Destroyed the entire family.
Very unfortunate incident. I don’t disagree with the no jail time as he does not have a record and this was doubtless a careless, one-off accident. His real punishment will be living with the memory & shame the rest of his life.
If he had expressed remorse and taken full responsibility at the beginning I would think better of him....
....you say he has ‘class’.......
....mercy ....from day one he and the family dragged the cruise ship line through the mud trying to get a large settlement
They were shameless!
probably the right punishment. If the family continues to sue the cruise line my opinion will change...
Yea...
“class” was the wrong word...i realized it after i hit the send button,
He picked the kid up dangled her out of an open window, accidentally DROPPED her then tried to blame the cruise line for having a frigging window open.
The guy should have sucked it up at the beginning and admitted his mistake.
So yea, “class” was the wrong word considering he was offered no jail time for the plea agreement.
Plus they are still suing RC..
First thought as I read this.
I remember that incident. Was speechless after watching it, and all I can say is poor Michael Jackson was just simply way off in the head.
The only way to look at this unfortunate happening.
What a beautiful child.
Very sad story
Te toddler’s family said the decision to plead guilty to negligent homicide was “incredibly difficult” but necessary for the family to “close this horrible chapter.”......The grandfather said that he was going to plead guilty so his family could begin to move on from the tragedy.
The plea agreement includes no jail time and no admission of facts.
We had some low income apartments in our district that had low windows that people opened when it was hot out and several kids crawled out of them over the years and dropped up to three stories. Fortunately they had hedges growing next to the building and the kids never had more than a few scratches. It always seemed like some sort of miracle.
The grandfather obviously adored this wee one. Actively participated in her life as was established. The reason the family sued the cruise liner was because they didn’t believe he should have been arrested in the first place.
