Listen up. Many supposedly independent search engines don't track you, or keep a dossier on you. HOWEVER, they use Google as their search engine. They submit your request to Google, and then forward the search results to you.

While this may prevent tracking, it doesn't do anything about censorship.

As far as I know Duck Duck Go falls into this category of relying on Google for the heavy lifting.

Correct. That’s why I switched from DDG to Qwant.
