“.I’m sure the new ones are improved.....and I do not like the exhaust amplifier mode....and I doubt you do either ....I hear some kid come by modestly punching it on eye sixty five and it sounds like he’s in a throated Maserati....which btw may utilize enhanced exhaust noise too....it reminds me of glass packs...”

New. ones are greatly improved.

Not sure what ‘exhaust amplifier mode’ is. Newer Mustangs are equipped with exhaust settings but they do not amplify.

I have a Roush exhaust which is similar and it sounds great. I get a nice burble at lowest setting and it rocks at the open setting. Programmable based on rpm and throttle inputs.

My little brothers corvettes zee something which was fast enough around 8-9 years ago

He took it to Decatur Indiana ....just had to

Around 15,000 later he had a supercharger and other improvements....not sure what the RWHP was after that....nearly 700 maybe.....less maybe.....I know the newer models would go around 800 hp

Anyhow.....he had trouble with it overheating in weather above 65.....you had to clean off leaves that got somewhere blocking air intake frequently ...I’m not being specific cause I don’t recall....we took it back and they tweaked it for free

But riding in it.....you had to have PS2s or another sort of soft tire.....that’s true of 011s too unless you enjoy tilt a whirl on heavily wooded lanes with oaks right by the shoulder

One day he had me in it and punched it on a road just as I described given hills Nashville area has no shortage...this ain’t Texas with nice groomed shoulders like around Llano

Man...it shifted from first to second no traction control ....he never used it...around 65-70.....the car went sideways strictly from that power transfer and miraculously pirouetted down the two lane road for 50 yards

With good tires

I had him take me home....I said I’ve got four kids from toddlers to grown and one in her oven.....this thing is simply overpowered for what it is for regular drivers

And that was that....and I have road raced bikes from two strokes to big four cycles and owned plenty hit cars and trucks

I started I started immediately working to get him to sell it

The overheating finally persuaded him...some cars are just dangerous....

I felt like I was in a cocoon of death squeezed in at six five 230 and how on earth would they get my dying corpse out of there

No thanks ...kind of like an MRI at 190 mph

But yes hey like the mustang can be made to haul ass

I agree with you it’s best in a car designed for such speeds

Top speed cars usually accelerate too but all accelerate cars are not heat at super speed

Hence a would you feel comfortable in a 1969 Dart 440 at 150 mph or even the venerable AC Cobra at 200 mph open top..lol

Yet in a new GTS with sure rubber 200 mph on a track or clear nice highway is not a big challenge guts wise

I drove 928 s4 RUF tuned monster around Western Europe in the 80s with a pregnant 25 year old wifey by my side and hitting 180 on the autobahn was nothing for minutes at a time

And then between Monaco and Genoa I’m winding through tunnels and a paltry 308 or 328 blows by me with kids and Benetton sweaters flapping on those curves like nothing ....

But that Corvette of my brothers....no thank you

Mustang has exhaust decibel adjustment ....maybe it’s just me but exhaust decibel should be tied to performance ....like I said....reminds me of glass packs and hipsters...they fetishize everything ....exhaust noise....”hey lets dial it in”

https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/active-exhaust-modes#what

Pick ups actually do this to with big pipes one could argue....

This was always an issue with Porsche....I’d ask my mechanic friend what can I do to boost power?

His reply: buy a Porsche turbo

Now all Porsche ...almost....are turbos....but now there are turbos and TURBOS

“Don’t be obtuse....179 ain’t chump change”

True, but we are discussing sub-12 quarter mile cars.

The Porsche 996 is not terribly quick 4.70 to 60 quarter-mile 13 something does better handling with proper tires and driver and acceleration from C 60 or 70 to 140 or 50 I suppose it has to do with gearing I just don’t know I’ll tell you one thing
The 996 used 13-14 liters oil when changed depending who’s counting
About same as my 2500 Cummins

I like Porsche

My penis size is adequate so I’m told

But I like them Because I could get in my 996 and drive to California without worrying about it I’m not sure I would do that in a Ferrari or Lamborghini or a Maserati or even a jaguar to be honest or even a 1969 Chevelle 396 in the summer

That said I always wanted a muscle car and my parents vetoed that immediately I got my drivers license in 1972 perfect time to buy a 3 to 5 year old musclecar and they were everywhere instead I had a yellow MGBGT which attracted girls to but you know there is a difference I always wanted a road runner 383 with the Hurst shifter On n the hump

Or a mid 60s goat

My uncle had an early 60s Mopar sedan that was very fast it was black red leather with white piping manual transmission but it look like a valiant
but it was hot I want to say something like a Dodge or Chrysler super sport I wonder if anyone here knows what I’m talking about it was scary fast for back then my mother hated riding in it

Today’s fast cars are faster and safer handling

Prices are much higher even for adjusted prices I mean 55,000 for a regular pick up truck today

I’ve always thought the entry-level Mustang 5.0 GT was about the best bang for the buck American wise you could get I don’t know if that’s still true because I don’t have a muscle car at all

I live in a rented Hertz truck of any make that I pay 700 a month for because I generally run 100,000 miles a year it’s just more cost-effective and we have a Toyota FJ cruiser and a jeep two door And a jeep four-door and a Nissan Sentra that I literally paid $200 for to a mechanic friend whose wife had bought the car new and that I would drive that car to Los Angeles today it’s amazing I do need to get my wife a newer car I’m not sure maybe a used Land Cruiser like we’ve always had or some sort of Sedan yes probably German

Or a Kia SUV I think they’re good value and dependable we have all the lotto very expensive cars back when I had more money it’s not really a priority anymore

I had a ‘04 996TT I bought new, drove it for 5 years, and sold it to a BIL, who drove it another 6 years til he lost it coming back home from a Watkins Glen track day. Loved that car, rock solid and fun to drive.

I had a 2014 C7 Coupe with the Z51 Package. Had the 7 Speed Manual. It was pretty quick, 0-60 in 3.8 Seconds.

My Mid Engine 2020 C8 HTC without the Z51 Package and the 8 Speed DCT could do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds with only 30 more HP, 495 versus 465 in the 2014.

Technology marches on. The C8 made my C7 look like a Dinosaur in Looks, Technology and Performance. My C7 was never mistaken for a Ferrari or a Lambo like my C8 was.

That model is Best Buy for a muscular Porsche

I had zero issues with my 996 Carrera

Tires biggest cost

Releathered drivers seat cause the original owner was heavy

And the convertible was less reliable after 100k mileage

I had the hard top too

Still do actually

He’s a moron for turning off the traction control is my take-away from that. And you’re smart for getting out.

Speaking of transmissions, I love the guys who decry the lack of availability of manual transmissions. I point out that F1 cars haven’t had manual transmissions for what? 2 decades at this point? And do they also want carbide headlamps and a manual crank starter?

They tend to get huffy at that point, which I enjoy.

I don’t get the relevance. F1 drivers are not driving for the enjoyment of driving, they are looking for the best way to win a race.

I am not trying to win a race with my corvette, I want to enjoy driving it and I enjoy the control operating the clutch and transmission gives me. An automatic is boring.

An automatic corvette is fine if you are of the gold chain and rolex crowd cruising around trying to get laid and need the prop to pull it off. Not so much if you want to enjoy driving it.

Modern automated manual transmissions, which is what a DCT is, are not the 3-speed Hydramatic slushboxes of your youth. And can typically be paddle-shifted, if manual gear selection is your thing.

If anything, the gold chain and Rolex crowd isn’t really interested in performance and likes the nostalgia of a stick.

Rowing a stick on a modern car is like wanting a rotary dial on your smartphone. Which, as I look, is actually available in the Apple App Store.

Even in Michigan I’ve seen some. The Turo website (it’s described as AirBnB for cars) even had one for rental, that was out of Muskegon. The Tesla charging stations have sprouted up at some of the Meijer gas stations near the freeways.

The nearest one to here I have actually laid eyes on is in Defuniak Springs, 50 miles away.

There must be some nearby that I’m not aware of................

Paddle shifted? Pffft. That is for little princesses who never learned to use a clutch. An automatic is fine for a minivan. An automatic in a sports car is sacrilege.

The gold chain and rolex crowd couldn’t care less about nostalgia or performance. They only care about image and getting laid.

A dual-clutch paddle-shifted automated manual transmission is what a modern new sports car comes with. If you’re about nostalgia, you’re welcome to row an obsolescent stick.
