Thanks Tol. I like analogies, because they can often make a point better than being direct.
One thing that people say to me is something to the effect: “I paid for those damn schools and I’m going to get something for my money! and (implying) who cares if they suck.”
So a bad guy knows you have cash in the house, he breaks in holds your daughter at gunpoint and demands the money. You give him the $10k and you ask for your daughter back. He says “No! I’m taking her anyway for 5 years, but here’s the deal, I’ll feed and clothe her with some of that $10k you just gave me.” Far too many parents here say, essentially, “Ok, that sounds fair, at least I’m getting something for my money. See you in 5 years, sweetie”.
In other words, the money is GONE because they (the schools) have the guns and the tools to extract it from you. You don’t have to also give them your kids to destroy.
Anyway, far too many people on our side simply hand over their kids to these ‘schools’, well, because that’s what their parents did with them. Perhaps people should give it a bit more thought - maybe living in an apartment or trailer park isn’t so bad for your kids, if they wind up being well-educated, making good money, and staying out jail.
...but often that is a lot to ask for from our side, I guess.
