“Hate Crimes are White Boogeyman Chum”
It’s rare to see a good title. I mean, rare. Typically, I read the title and roll my eyes. But this one drew a great image, sharks attacking meat, threw in an ancient word about frightened children, race in a good way and one of the phrases I really hate, “Hate Crimes.”
Not to wonder too far off topic, but, hey, this is FR and it’s my job. My problem with hate crimes is two fold. One, it requires that you know what the perpetrator was thinking...which makes the prosecutor a God. And, two, it gives an outsized power to people who, in the ordinary course of life, have none. (It’s not that they have no power because they are (Oh, I hate this phrase) “of color.” (Pardon, I had to puke there.) It’s that, except in special circumstances, like you’re a parent, or you’re the boss, almost nobody has “power.” And, the thing I know about power is, it’s no fun if you don’t use it. And, those who have none or little will use it to excess.
Okay, I return you now to your regularly scheduled program. (Test pattern. The one with the politically incorrect indian.)
