I know what you mean. I have several hens that lay an extra large, well barely fit into a plastic container without pushing up on the lid.
Last year I raised a couple of turkey hens, they laid double sized eggs. Super thick shell and membrane, had to cut the membrane open, it wouldn’t tear with the egg being cracked.
A true ranging/foraging chicken lays an egg that cannot be equalled. Dark orange yoke that only comes from an omnivorous bird. As a bonus the bug population is much lower around my place because of this fact.
I’ll take the risk of loss by predators for the fact that my birds range the entire area hunting out interesting things to eat.
I’m not certain if there is a way to raise a happier bird.
