If you think the periodic table is confusing, take a look at the egg carton labels of your local grocery store. So many words! So many symbols! And why are some cartons $2 a dozen and others $8?
If you’re seeking the best choice in terms of hen welfare and environmental sustainability, look for eggs that are pasture-raised or free-range, humane, and organic. These eggs will cost you more, but they’re better for the farmers, the animals, and the planet. At the store, we reach for Handsome Brook Farms, Vital Farms, Carol’s, and Pete and Gerry’s. Or take a trip to the farmers market, where you can ask the farmer about the chickens they came from and direct your money straight to the source. The eggs are likely to be fresher too.
For more details on egg carton labels, check out the list below, organized by what the terms broadly refer to:

I transported some organic chickens to the packing plant. Half of them died on the way.
It is better to buy from the local farm stand.
If you live somewhere that does not have local farms, time to move somewhere that does!
how do they pack them? I use a bread and sausage stuffing.
The food crazies won’t live any longer or healthier. However their delusions give them comfort. The problem is that they can’t allow the rest of us to enjoy a good steak in peace.
quite agree
Imho the food crazies will actually die sooner than other folks—their stressing out about food will kill them!
It certainly is.
My wife and I raised beef cattle on our farm. We're always being ask by people who don't have a clue, are your cows grass fed?
Well, of course they are grass fed. What else would I feed them? The life of a cow is to spend all day, every day, munching on pasture grass when it's growing or hay (made from the same grass) when it's too cold to grow.
Only when I fatten up a steer to butcher for our freezer, do we feed it sweet grain pellets to add some fat and weight.
People always want grass fed beef until they eat it. It's tough, dry, stringy and has no taste.
We fatten up our own beef with sweet grain for several months to add fat, marbleize the meat and make it more flavorable.
But all of the calves and cows we take to auction are 100% grass fed.
It really is quite retarded.
I love steak and eggs. It’s a great supper or 3 am snack after a night out.
I want free range eggs where the hens live in contant terror of being killed by foxes and hawks. The adrenaline gives a special bite to the eggs’ flavor.
yessir
We get our chicken and sometimes duck eggs directly from the farm. I’ve met the chickens (and the ducks). They are free range with good quality food. Yum. When they stopped laying this winter we just went without eggs. I think I’ve gotten two dozen total from the grocery store all year.
racoons too
I have my own chickens. They live quite well. They live in a pen with perches just like a bird cage only bigger. I let them out to run around the yard once in a while. I call them free range organic grass fed cage-free humanely raised eggs.
The eggs are absolutely fantastic. My French toast is the best. Over easy beautiful golden yolks. I can go outside and get some eggs that are still chicken body temperature and cook them right up. I have compared them to store bought eggs and the difference is obvious. When my hens aren’t laying, I buy the organic brown eggs which are noticeably better than the common white eggs.
There are two kinds of vegetarians, those that don’t eat meat and those that don’t want anybody to eat meat.
brown eggs are the same as white eggs, dont be racist.
