Turning clergy into cops, or at least informants, was a tactic used by the KGB and its predecessors, as well as the Stasi and the Gestapo. Liberal Protestants, “progressive” Catholics, and many evangelicals who misinterpret Romans 13 and other New Testament passages are all too willing to be willing tools of tyranny.
