One of the snipers had a spotting scope with a camera attached that livestreamed back to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where the Delta Ground Force commander was based with support staff.
Long-range marksmanship involves contesting with a variety of environmental factors, including wind, but the Delta teams didn't rely on guesswork. Soleimani was believed to be responsible for many attacks on US soldiers, so Trump had him eliminated. The left howled in protest. Remember, early in Trumps term, a SF operation in Yemen failed because the enemy weren’t surprised. I’m certain someone inside tipped them off to make Trump look bad. The media certainly raised a big stink about it.
It seems the State Department is most of the time at odds with what is best for the United States. It would appear the CIA and the State Department have the same philosophy.
Unsurprising as both recruit from the same sources. Mostly Ivy League schools.
