Gavin MacLeod, a sitcom veteran who played seaman “Happy” Haines on “McHale’s Navy,” Murray on “Mary Tyler Moore” and the very different, vaguely patrician Captain Stubing on “The Love Boat,” has died. He was 90.

I know nothing about him but he seemed to be a really nice guy.
RIP Gavin MacLeod
I think he used to be an outspoken Christian, IIRC.
RIP.
No more negative waves.
RIP Moriarty.
“Always with the negative waves.” RIP, Moriarty.
Close friends with Pat and his late wife Shirley Boone.
“vaguely patrician”? WTH
He played a sleazy casting couch Hollywood type in Blake Edwards’ 1968 comedy The Party.
He gave a good performance in the role (and I didn’t even recognize him) but the character was a real jerk.
He also turned in some fine dramatic performances on shows like “The Untouchables” and “Perry Mason.”
Condolences to family and friends of Gavin MacLeod. R.I.P., sir.
I saw he and his wife on the PTL Club with Jim and Tammie Faye. That was weird.
Affable non-fringe Guy. We could use a whole bunch more like him
Rest In Peace, sir.
Also in Kelly’s Hero’s. Good role go
od acting . Good movie great ensemble cast.
MTM show. The clown funeral is my favorite.
Different from Murray and Happy I guess, but I didn't get a "patrician" vibe from him.
Gopher (Fred Grandy) actually was "patrician" in that he went to Phillips Exeter (roomed with David Eisenhower and was best man at his wedding to Julie Nixon) and Harvard and became a congressman.
RIP Gavin McLeod
Oh dear. Loved him. Also today BJ Thomas. Two talented men. R.I.P.
He became a Christian and was in several Christian movies that I love.
I remember him from “Operation Petticoat” (1959) - The Pink Submarine, where he played the hapless Ernest Hunkle, and the love interest of Maj. Edna Heywood RN (Virginia Gregg) who found a new use for a foundation garment! Thank you Blake Edwards, I love this Cary Grant & Tony Curtis WW2 Dramedy!
RIP Gavin MacLeod, you leave with having generated far more smiles than most!
