I was placed in a majority black school during the busing fiasco and was commonly accosted for my lunch money by groups of blacks. I gave them nothing. They would back off after making a lot of threats.

All that stopped when I threw some kid down three flights of stairs. At least that was the story that spread around.

Actually, a black kid grabbed my notebook, and when I turned to brush him off, he tripped and fell on the landing. I just kept going to class and thought nothing of it. It was hours later when I heard how the story had grown. I now had a "reputation". Strange how that worked. I had the good sense not to contradict the story.

We all got along just fine afterwards.

I heard a similar story. A boy was being harassed and he pushed the guy who was annoying him. The kid tripped and fell through a window. From that day forward he was known as the guy who tossed kids through windows. Nobody bothered him anymore.
