Sounds to me like the kid was working on his truck himself off hours in the repair shop, a common occurrence, I believe. I doubt a competent repair shop would let a truck which wasn’t gearing right go out the door. It’s a he-said-she-said matter except for the body camera which, I hope, clarifies the situation one way or another.
This is another questionable one:
Circumstances of the supposed “abduction” aside, this guy panicked, and was probably trying to reach someone on his cellphone. Perhaps he was a relative of the kid, perhaps a parent - which there are rumors of.
The “tell” is the following line:
“Officials have not said what kind of weapon the suspect had, or confirmed whether he pointed or fired it at officers before being shot.”
ALMOST ALWAYS that means there was no weapon.

But here we have the dangerous hour of the night, a man in the age range of active criminality, who hopped out of the car, grabbed something and perhaps stooped down behind or beside the truck with that object. We have no indication of what the cop said, I assume, but we also don’t know what the kid might or might not have said by way of explaining what he was doing. Had he stayed in the truck and explained that he didn’t trust his park gear when the cop came up to the vehicle, it probably would have been a minor inconvenience (with maybe a ticket for driving a truck out of compliance) rather than this tragedy.
You don’t understand the camo pants? It’s a message that’s Says very clearly “I am militarized, armed and you will obey”. That’s the sole purpose.
I’m not saying it was a righteous shoot. I just think we need to wait for more information before we lynch the cop.
That would fall into "the suspect assaulted the officer by ramming his truck into the officer's patrol car." Shooting follows.
It is crap like this when I realize we DO have a problem with police.
If you had a CCW, and shot the kid in the same situation, would you be charged?
It should not be so... It is broken...
I am scared to death to take my father with me to town, not even to his doctor because we might get pulled over for a taillight or something. He is 86, almost deaf, and has sever dementia. He will not be able to comprehend or understand or even HEAR “Official Commands” from an officer. He will immediately reach for his phone or his little notebook that has his daily schedule on it. Which he does out of subconscious habit needed or not. WE ARE GOING TO BOTH GET SHOT SOMEDAY. It has almost happened already. Would this be completely acceptable? Shoot first “Just in case” and ask questions later because of his physical and mental impairments? Should I lock him up in a rest home as a prisoner to keep him and I safe from a possible trigger happy “Peace Officer”?

No. As a private citizen as opposed to a cop who is entitled to a presumption of authority to stop and order people around, I would have no right to create a dangerous situation by stopping the vehicle in the first place. I can’t see such a shooting justified except in circumstances not present in this case..
My point is that time of day or night it should never make a difference in protocol, or excuse things like this. Many law abiding people work and travel at night too. This would be guilt before innocence. Are we no longer presumed innocent before guilty? At any time day or night? Or only during the day?

Agreed. But here’s the thing. Most civilians don’t have crisis training. They haven’t gone through multiple drills covering every possible situation.
So when a civilian is stopped by the police, there is no crisis training to kick in. Instead that person is confused and scared. And so it’s quite reasonable to expect him to make a stupid mistake.
Now, who does have that crisis training? It’s the police officer, of course. That’s why in a situation like this one, the officer must be held to a higher standard of conduct.
King said Brittain's truck wouldn’t go into park, so Brittain got out to grab a blue oil jug to put behind his truck’s tires and stop it from hitting Davis' car. According to King, Davis then fired without telling Brittain to stop or get on the ground.
“They didn’t say one word that I know of. I didn’t hear it and it happened so fast,” King said.
King said another deputy soon arrived and detained him.
“[He] told me get out with my hands up and pull my shirt up and stuff, and then took me to the ground, put me in handcuffs and was dragging me around and stuff," King said. "And then I sat in the back of the cop car for about three hours."
King said Arkansas State Police showed up later and interviewed him about what happened.
