They have ruined a perfectly good word. Pride used to be a nice thing. You were proud of your kids. You were proud when you became a Marine.
That word is gone now. It has been co-opted and reserved for use with the meaning: person who practices sex in an abnormal way and is ashamed of it, and who wears pride shirts to attempt to hide his/her shame.
The modern philosophy of “sex positivity” makes all of this kosher, even in front of kids.
