Yes, you’ll pay like consumers had to pay for “smart meters”

It’s clear as day. They make it financially painful not to get the equipment installed.

“I was wondering if this isn’t double taxation.”

Sure it is... and it violates the Constitutional right of free travel.

American drivers could soon trade paying taxes on gas at the pump for owing the government annual 'per-mile user fees,' under a new pilot program recently passed by the Senate in Joe Biden's $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal.

Isn't that the only way you are ever going to get owners of Teslas and other electric cars to pay for road and highway upkeep?

The other problem with this tax is that it is what is called a “regressive tax,” meaning it hits those with lower incomes harder.

If you live in a place with public transportation and work in that same place, you’re probably not driving, whether you’re rich or poor.

But if you work in one of these places and commute, you will be paying…the lower income workers tend to live further away because of housing costs, and thus will have to drive further.

Prices of car services, etc. will also rise, so even lower income people who aren’t driving their own vehicles will have to pay more.

Farmers and agricultural workers have to drive a lot every day, so their costs will rise significantly.

Thus everybody’s costs rise and everybody’s prices will have to rise and we are in the famous inflationary cycle, which means everybody ends up with no money at all when it collapses.

Only Democrats (and RINOs) could be so stupid.

Just another commie tool to try to coerce rural citizens under the urban umbrella where the democrat troops antifa/blm can control them. Those rural folks that live double digit miles from the nearest shopping, medical or any other help for any activity city folk see as everyday will get hosed as usual, per the plan. I’ll need to dust off my 80’s ride with no eletronics embedded it seems.

There is already a “black box” in every new car and has been for years, similar to the black box on a plane.

CNBC had a documentary on it about 10-12 years ago

There's nothing in Congress's constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers that would reasonably (imo) justify taxing drivers by the mile. So such a tax is just another constitutionally indefensible federal tax imo.

The ultimate remedy for unconstitutionally big federal government run by crook Democrats and RINOs who are oppressing patriots under their boots, unconstitutional federal taxes just one example...

Patriots need to primary federal and state elected officials who don't send voters email ASAP that clearly promises to do the following.

Federal and state lawmakers need to promise in their emails to introduce resolutions no later than 100 days after start of new legislative sessions that proposes an amendment to the Constitution to the states to repeal the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments.

You are right, but with the older vehicles the problem is the insurance companies. They will work with the government to make sure the mileage is reported. Such as “You can’t buy insurance unless you comply”.

See #21 if you haven’t already.

Put it all together:

A "Vehicle Mileage Tax" is the foot in the door to eventually make it too expensive for anyone to drive any distance from their homes. This and the eventually automated roadway system for "self-driving cars" will eliminate the freedom of driving that we have now. Control travel, you control people.

The whole Climate Change scam is the socialist campaign to restrain Big Oil's money and influence and bring it under their control. Oil is critical for movement, home heating/cooling, food production/transportation/distribution/storage, and not coincidentally, to fight wars. Control the oil, you control everything.

The whole "Universal Background Checks" campaign was to get all of the firearms transactions under government control. Now that they've got that, they will start incrementally increasing the circumstances that will "prohibit" folks from buying and possessing firearms, step by step.

It's what socialists do.
