“ Life is more enjoyable for a longer period of time if you eat healthy and avoid becoming diabetic. ”

Lots of people don’t even know they’re becoming diabetic like me when I recently hit the prediabetic level at 5.7 A1C. Need a blood test to know.
I’m thankful for the info and taking steps to correct.

“There are already drugs in clinical trials for other purposes that target the enzyme responsible for producing fructose-1-phosphate,” said Dr. Goncalves. “We’re hoping to find a way to repurpose them to shrink the villi, reduce fat absorption, and possibly slow tumor growth.”

Typical ‘modern’ medicine solution. Instead of doing something simple, like adjusting one’s diet away from sugary foods, there will be a pill one can take. A pill that will no doubt have a long list of side-effects.

It would the appear that Karo is not pure corn syrup, which Karo at least has vanilla added.

It is possible it has maltose and perhaps other sugars based on glucose, but I can’t seem to find such information.

Isn’t low carb a wonderful way to get back to a healthy weight? My wife and I are losing weight with it, too.

It works well for me. Of course there’s a lot of things I can’t eat, but there’s a lot I can eat that I like and as much as I want and still lose weight. Steak, chicken, pork chops, bacon, fish, cheese, eggs, sugar-free jello, whipping cream in my coffee, and more. The only thing I miss about high carb food is the convenience, but discipline and planning ahead works wonders.

I am thinking that it would be an interesting treatment to counter the process described in the article. Perhaps some smart person will figure it out in my lifetime.

A researchers figured it out a very long time ago. Consuming omega 6 fats makes it harder for the body to process sugar.

Excess stored iron damages the pancreas.

I’m thankful for the info and taking steps to correct.

The best books I've read on the subject are two books by Dr. Jason Fung, The Obesity Code, and The Diabetes Code.

I gained the most understanding of the how and why of the condition.

My belief is that, in general, doctors don't know much about how to prevent or cure illnesses. Their real specialty is identifying treatable symptoms. They generally prefer to treat those symptoms with drugs, and if they can get somebody dependent on those drugs they'll have a steady source of income indefinitely. Not only for the ongoing testing and treatment of the original condition, but also for treatment of all the stuff that develops as a result of side effects of the initial prescribed medications.

You’re welcome. Do you remenber Prevention magazine in the 80’s? It was excellent back then. The Rodale family did a great job publishing articles about foods and additives, margerine and HFCS, supplements.....

Since then 99.5% of food I cook is from scratch and additive free. I like to let others know about this information.

That said, I’m not perfect. Wild horses cant keep me from potato chips. Cookies are also dangerous but I have a few go to scratch recipes. But no, homemade chips are not a good substitute :).

When you buy bread you will notice on the packages those that say “No High Fructose Corn Syrup”.
The makers know how bad it is.

Take the Top line:

Wholesale WORLD MARKET PRICE:

22.12 Cents per POUND for 'white' [refined] sugar.

COMPARE to Walmart Retail:

Walmart Store Brand white sugar $2.08 = 52.0 ¢/lb on line, higher in store.

Sort of related, but foods high in fructose are potential trigger foods on the FODMAP diet for IBS.

FODMAP stands for Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols, and consists of groups of certain types of carbohydrates that are thought to trigger GI symptoms. I have been following this diet for 3 years now and have been able to keep my IBS at bay (mostly). A trigger for me not listed are the seed oils - cottonseed, etc. Olive oil does not.

Yes it is. I personally heard Senator Tom Coburn (RIP) go out of his way at a townhall to mention the association between HFCS and cancer.

Oughta be against the law... fat chance...
