Military explosives are very powerful. It only takes 1/2 pound of C4 to cut a railroad track. A man could easily carry enough of that cause that sort of blast.
There is an explosive scale. TNT is rated 1.0 by definition. Dynamite is rated .4 on that scale. C4 (RDX) is rated 1.6. PETN is rated 1.9.
