Twitter permanently suspends Alex Berenson over coronavirus tweets

Twitter has permanently suspended former New York Times journalist and author Alex Berenson, a critic of coronavirus lockdowns and mandates, from its platform.

"The account you referenced has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation rules," a Twitter spokesperson told Fox News in response to an inquiry Saturday night.

On his Substack page, Berenson subsequently posted a brief message, just over 152 characters, titled, "Goodbye Twitter."

"This was the tweet that did it," he wrote, above a screenshot of his account before it was taken down. "Entirely accurate. I can’t wait to hear what a jury will make of this."

In that tweet, he wrote that the coronavirus vaccine does not stop infection or transmission.

"Don’t think of it as a vaccine," he continued. "Think of it – at best – as a therapeutic with a limited window of efficacy and terrible side effect profile that must be dosed IN ADVANCE OF ILLNESS."

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention say that COVID-19 vaccines "are safe and effective" following tens of thousands of clinical trials and that side effects are rare.

Berenson, 48, made national headlines last year for his criticism coronavirus lockdowns and mandates, drawing the ire of Big Tech, the mainstream media and others who sought to bury his writing.

In a December op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Berenson warned that the COVID-19 pandemic had ushered in "a new age of censorship and suppression."

"Information has never been more plentiful or easier to distribute. Yet we are sliding into a new age of censorship and suppression, encouraged by technology giants and traditional media companies. As someone who’s been falsely characterized as a coronavirus ‘denier,’" he wrote at the time. "I have seen this crisis firsthand."

At that time, he had just finished battling with Amazon over a dispute over his own self-published books.

"Since June, Amazon has twice tried to suppress self-published booklets I have written about Covid-19 and the response to it," he continued. "These booklets don’t contain conspiracy theories. Like the scientists who wrote the Great Barrington Declaration, I simply believe many measures to control the coronavirus have been damaging, counterproductive and unsupported by science."

Berenson worked at the New York Times from 1999 until 2010, before becoming a full-time novelist. He also published nonfiction, including a controversial 2019 book that argued against the legalization of marijuana.

Apparently, publishing a study that the vaccinated have a 1300% greater chance of getting COVID than the unvaccinated who have acquired natural immunity, is now worthy of censorship.

Should people like Alex be censored? No. However, the censorship is a reality to be dealt with. Anybody on twit, screwtube, Fakebook who is depending on them for ‘communication’ & isn’t already posting on a non-censoring platform as well .... not smart.

That was one of the biggest failures of the Trump presidency. He should have established some strong alternatives to Farcebook and Tweater early on.

Red states need to return the favor and flip the switch on these Big Tech fascists. This is a war and only one side is fighting.

Here's my problem. All my life leftists have promoted Marxism despite VOLUMES of empirical data that shows it doesn't work.

Yet THEY enjoy the blessings of free speech. Funny how the one way street has so many potholes.

I have a permanent suspension from Twitter and don’t even post. They mustn’t like someone I followed or they made a mistake. I sure as hell ain’t making an appeal for them to reverse it.

No public utility should ever have a censorship policy.

No, Trump is a potentate of of biz networking.

IMHO it was predictable that the deep state was gonna cut him off at some point.

He needed to have alternatives.

"No public utility should ever have a censorship policy."

Twitter is a private company. They can do whatever they want. If they want to throw customers out of their store, they have that right.

NO conservative should give them an ounce of business. Personally, I won't ever go to Twitter or Facebook. If everyone else did the same, Jack Dorcey and Mark Zuckerberg would have nothing but a bunch of whiny communists arguing with each other.

Twitter, Facebook, etc. should ban folks who explicitly call for violence. Otherwise, they should just add a disclaimer to any post they think is incorrect. Something like: “We believe that one or more statements in this post are incorrect. Please do your own due diligence.”

But no. Twitter, etc. have decided to take a hard, fascist approach instead - silence anyone who disagrees with the party line.

Frustrating and idiotic, the suppression of information, regardless of what the clueless YouTube boobs think, is a tell. What does it tell? That they support the use of this disease to effect an authoritarian domination of the government, economy, and society of the United States.

I am not suppressing the dubious blanket statements regarding the safety and efficacy of the various available vaccines. So, why do they care that I might think otherwise?

Because the supporters of a One Party State are using the draconian restrictions and strange vaccine fascism to force Americans to live literally as caged animals, at the pleasure of the corrupt leftist elite. Effective free speech is a threat to that plan, and so censorship is their reflexive reaction.

If the Democrats have their way, spreading “Misinformation” and “Disinformation”, according to their constantly changing definitions, will become crimes, much worse than the vandalism, arson, assault and murder their allies in the BLM and ANTIFA have and continue to perpetrate. This is my definition of tyranny, and the Democrats are all in about this, and cannot walk back this evil. The die is cast.

The Trump Organization comprises roughly 500 different businesses.

I assume he was capable of doing what was needed.
