Bob Dylan is perhaps the original poster child for that. His voice has been completely shot since around the turn of the millennium. I did see him do a good show in the 90s. GE Smith was his band leader, it was great. He’s painful to try to listen to today.
Maybe he feels he no longer has what it takes to open for a hair band.
Dude always trips over his ego.
I thought Roth was much better front man the Haggar. I thought his voice fit Van Halen better...
I thought so too.
He’s a very talented guy.
“He’s bigger than U.S. Steel”
I see what you did there.
DLR copied Jim Dandy with Jim Dandys blessing.
Say what you like but Roth has writing credit on virtually all of the early Van Halen songs. He wrote all the lyrics to everything they did until he left the band. They aren't exactly shakespeare and are mostly the ravings of a degenerate mind but they did shape a big part of the image of Van Halen in those days. He was more than just the Davey Jones of Van Halen.
You might like ‘Little Guitars’ and ‘The Cradle Will Rock’.
Hold my Geritol...
Got your mind of men’s sexuality this morning, eh?
The one armed drummer?
I remember hearing a clip of Dave singing at Las Vegas. He was off-key. Other reports I read were similar that his voice isn’t there anymore.
In my previous profession, I worked with many gay men. Roth’s mannerisms and facial expressions give me that vibe that I have seen many times in gay men. Also, I have a relative who married a man and had 3 children with him and he turned out to be gay and they divorced. He is now living with his boyfriend. I knew all along he was gay by his mannerisms. My gay-dar is usually right.
Many of Van Halen's songs, especially their more popular ones, are covers. "Pretty Woman" and "You Really Got Me" were huge hits for them.
-(Oh) Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
-You Really Got Me - The Kinks
-Ice Cream Man - John Brim
-Where Have All The Good Times Gone? - The Kinks
-Dancing In The Street - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas
Actually I agree with Roth. Van Halen were giants compared to Motley Crue (which I agree is kind of a low bar)
Yes, that’s true. But Roth was the one who insisted on the cover songs. He loved them, they kicked him out of the band in part because he kept insisting on more of them. As a solo artist he had hits with ... cover songs. Van Halen didn’t do any more after Roth left as far as I know.
One break, comin’ up!
