Can you enlighten the Gentiles as to what this is all about? Tonight starts the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, the "Head of the Year" or Jewish New Year. It is a time of self reflection and making your case before G-d that He should renew your contract and grant you another year of life. The ram's horn, the shofar, is sounded in a certain series of notes to heighten our awareness of the holiness of the day. Certain foods are eaten to symbolize our desire for good health, livelihood, peace, etc. "Shanah Tovah", what's written in Hebrew here, means "New Year" literally, but really connotes "Happy New Year".
I am busy baking some whole wheat challah, making vegetable strudel, cucumber salad, salmon croquettes, and I'll bake a honey cake, the traditional dessert.

I was just chatting with a friend in Israel about Rosh Hashanah. She is not a practicing Jew and I’m curious how the secular people celebrate. I know she is excited about the holiday.
